Supporting the Great British Spring Clean

In the past 12 months our outdoor spaces have mattered to us more than ever before; helping us through lockdown as we all take time out to get outside. Never has it felt more important to show some love for those special places.

And, last month hundreds of colleagues across Barclaycard Payments took part in a UK litter pick event proving what is good for our environment is good for your mental and physical health too.

The Great British Spring Clean is an annual, UK-wide litter pick event that supports the work of Keep Britain Tidy and this year was the second time Barclaycard Payments colleagues volunteered to support, following the successful Great British September Clean last year.

Tom Jarvis, Director of Sales Enablement and Professional Services at Barclaycard Payments, explains, “It all started in 2018 when we partnered with the Marine Conservation Society for the Great British Beach Clean. Fast forward to 2021 and our colleagues are continuing the fight against litter pollution as they once again volunteered to make a difference in their local community in support of this great initiative.

“Up and down the UK, volunteers took time out to litter pick in their local neighbourhoods and outdoor spaces – including parks, beaches, woodlands, canal walks and other beauty spots.”

The annual event is a great opportunity to make a positive difference across local communities as well to take some time out in the fresh air. Colleagues, armed with a pair of gardening gloves and an eco-friendly rubbish sack, took advantage of the drier weather to do their bit to collect rubbish – all in line with social distancing guidelines in place during the pandemic.

By joining the Great British Spring Clean, our colleagues joined the vast numbers of #LitterHeroes on a collective mission to improve the environment.
